Breathe In

As the air infiltrates our lungs, we urge the body to absorb its required nutrients
Only the necessities, nothing additional
Only seconds pass as we
Breathe Out

The continuous cycle,
The mindless motion of sustaining life
But necessary, right?
Through day and through night,
We must Breathe In and Breathe Out

My deliberate focus was the former, and I never continued.
Not a morbid effort, quite the opposite, actually
Once I received the necessities, I lingered, waiting for my soul to fasten.

To the prolonging breath, there was life
Reminiscences of indescribable scenery
My heart dense with gratitude in the tapestry of the past
My mind racing with confusion, by what mercy is this mine?
My stomach grappling with the guilt in the undeserving
Yet, I am grateful

And as the year is coming to a close
I yearn for more breaths like this,
The ones that not only feed the body, but unravel the soul
Air that reminds you how far you’ve come

Breathe In
As much as you can.
Rest here, a moment from a previous prayer
Give gratitude in the solace that is the present
Only then can we
Breathe Out
